Jenny & Richard in the arena on Brodie and Shogun
The new place sits up high in the ridges of the San Gabriel mountains, overlooking the Mojave Desert. 1 Dec 2014 at 9:32PM Jen on Brodie, Richard on Shogun
One of the best 'free' horse's I've ever come to know, Shogun has an enlarged thyroid, also known as a goiter. His prior owner said he's had it for the last 5 years. It may not be entirely fixable, but it's caused by either too much iodine in his diet, or too little. The easy fix is to take him off the concentrated feed he had been on, and see if eating only hay helps the goiter go down. If that doesn't work, then adding a single drop of iodine to his water a day will do the trick. Shogun is tall, but he's a teddybear of a horse anyone can ride. Uh....Steve???? 1 Dec 2014 at 9:36PM Brodie & Jenny
While his stocky stature makes him look on the short side, Brodie stands at 15 hands. He was used as a trick horse by a man who also rode him in SASS (Single Action Shooting Society - which is a sport of cowboy mounted shooting). Think of a cowboy or cowgirl atop a 1,200 pound horse, six guns a blazing while galloping through a patterned course of fire, and you may get the mental image of a cowboy action mounted shooter. SASS mounted shooting is one of the nation's fastest growing equestrian sports and is a direct spin-off of Cowboy Action Shooting. So he leans towards the "hot" side. We've been working on settling him down a little. Here, his lower headset shows a quiet confidence in him. 1 Dec 2014 at 9:42PM A "spartacus" sort of looking duo huh!
Jenny has good taste! Honestly, Richard is a sweetheart and she deserves a good man who appreciates who she is. I am so happy for them! 1 Dec 2014 at 10:58PM A natural
Jenny has absconded with the heart of any animal I've ever had the privilege to know. Once, I brought home a tiny Jack Russell puppy, thinking it would be all mine for a change. Raising 6 kids means either giving everyone their own (heaven forbid!), or having to share the household pets including the family cat, which turns you into a pet oger somehow lol. 'Bandit' was adorable, played at my heels as I went about my day on the ranch, but that all ended when Jenny came home. She was about 4 years old at the time. He was only hers and hers only from the moment they laid eyes on each other. Nothings changed. This personable gelding took a big fancy for the little thief this last weekend, and, oh well. Such is life when you have a daughter like Jenelle! 1 Dec 2014 at 10:58PM |
