Sharon on deadhead watch

A deadhead is a log or other large floating obstacle that could damage the hull if a boat hit it.

Wesley and Terri

Wesley suffers from downs syndrome, and grew up next door to Terri who took him under her wing like a big sister.

Wake skiing

That's right...no ski's, just the wake to hold you up! Falling There may have been a day I would have been brave enough to try it, but no longer lol.

Beaching the boat

That's right, backing up and then heading full speed into a shallow beach to secure the board to shore. Terri and I both got out before hand...just in case it didn't go well lol. What chickens! Laughing

Purposefully beached

You can see the 20 foot drop off where the water gets dark. Folsom has a number of man made beaches just like this up the channels for watercraft landings, made when they initially dredged the lake for a water reservoir. The lake was formed by Folsom Dam, constructed in 1955 to control the American River.

Terri's husband Larry is horribly camera shy, making this one of the few shots he was caught in.

Staying dry

Neither Sharon or I swim (never learned!), so we opted to stay dry in the boat.

Shooting across the lake

There's a good reason they fear Folsom Lake is a terrorist target. Just below the far lip of the lake lies Sacramento. If that were blown, thousands upon thousands of homes that sit directly below the lake would be wiped out in an instant.

Folsom Lake map

Folsom lake has more than 11,500 surface acres when full and almost 75 miles of shoreline. The spillway elevation is 466 feet above sea level. Folsom Dam was placed just below the confluence of the north and south forks of the American River which divide the lake into three sections including the main lake body. The primary purpose of the dam was to provide flood control, hydroelectric power, and irrigation. The resulting benefit of this dam was the creation of one of the most popular parks in the California State Park Systems. Each year between two and three million people visit this area for camping, fishing, sailing, horseback riding, picnicking and other outdoor activities and today, I was one of them. Grinning
