Ick grew his gray down in first, then once he was fully covered in the new down, grew in his feathers. Davi, on the other hand, is growing both at the same time.

Looking up close to his wing, you can see the lacy fine down quills mixed in with the thicker and courser feather quills. As the down and feathers develop, they push out of the quill ends, making for a lovely blend of fluffy soft light gray down and very dark, blackish gray feather tips.
