Siamese or ....?

I always thought that Siamese cross bred with other cats threw black kittens with white markings. Dah Ling has a soft high "mew" that is anything but Siamese too. She obviously isn't a pure bred...so what would you guess she is?

Re: Siamese or ....?
I think it's a Burmese that has the white paws, but I can't recall if they are colored like a Siamese or not. She may darken as she gets older like my Purrcy did. Smiling

Re: Siamese or ....?
It's not Burmese....they are solid...used to be only very dark brown, but they've added other solid colors over the years. I know my kitties too!! There is a cat called a 'Snowshoe', and that's a possibility. Those little eyes worry me though....there are some deadly kitten diseases (FIP for one) that will do that, so I hope you can get her in to the vet asap. I lost a kitten from it many years ago.... They also get herpes, which will cause that, and that is treatable. Good luck with the adorable baby.

Re: Siamese or ....?
Good advice! I do already have a call into the local vet asking for an appointment asap, but they are closed over the weekend. It's nasty, what ever it is, poor little thing.

I did look it up--it's a Birman I was thinking of.

The vet visit is a very good idea. They can give you an idea of ags too.

Re: Siamese or ....?
I Googled "Birman cats" and think you are onto something. A smallish cat with white socks or mittens, blue eyes, Siamese markings and semi long hair. Look at these two:

The diagnostic feature of this breed is its pure white paws, giving the impression that it is wearing white gloves. The rest of the long, silky coat is essentially golden-fawn, with the addition of the dark points typical of a Siamese (Seal, blue, chocolate, lilac...Dah Ling is a lilac, what ever breed she stems from). It is the combination of this dark-pointed pattern with the white paw color that gives the Birman its extraordinary, kid-gloved appearance.

Its soft voice may give the impression that this is a docile animal. In reality it has a lively temperament and can become a real presence in the household. The Birman is well-balanced both physically and psychologically, and its gaze gives it a gentle, calm, and dignified look.

That covers my brat cat too. Smiling He has a small meow, which sounds odd coming from a 22 pound cat. lol

Re: Siamese or ....?
Tiki, the cat that hangs out with me is (I believe he is anyway) a Birman Siamese. I saw him at a flea market, a Amish lady had him and his brother, Tiki said that he wanted to come home with me so I said ok. He has all the characteristics of a Birman Siamese with the exception of the white socks, his paws are only slightly whitish in color. He has the long silky hair and the mane of a Birman Siamese, I'll post a picture of him when I get a chance. He's quite the character!

Re: Siamese or ....?
I can agree with the possibility of crossbreeding since my mama cat (ChiChi - a red tabby) that had 7 kittens had 3 gray tabbies, 1 tortoiseshell and 3 that my veterinarian diagnosed as "Siamese" - however, because ChiChi is definitely NOT a Siamese, I call them a Siamese/tabby mix. I gave away 1 of the gray tabbies and 2 of the Siamese crosses so I no longer know how those are colored but the Siamese cross I still have has a coat that is still changing (the kittens have just gotten past their 6 month age and I have been told that their coloring could still change somewhat until they reach their first birthday) but is now light chocolate on the back with a gray face and black ears, gray paws and a "raccoon" tail. She (Serina) has blue eyes that are slightly crossed with brown around the pupil that makes it harder to determine when her pupils are dilated or constricted.

I had a cat that was diagnosed with feline herpes and the biggest symptom I remember from that disease was the "weepy" eyes that he had at all times.

Here's a link to a picture of Tiki, I believe that he is mostly Birman Siamese, although not a pure bred:

Re: Siamese or ....?
My guess is that your kitten is a Siamese cross, because they are much more common than any of the other breeds. Numerous purebred cats have Siamese in their ancestry, like the Himalayan, Ragdoll, Abyssian, Balinese, Javanese, Oriental, etc. I have a Tonkinese, and they originted from breeding a Burmese and Siamese. When you have a cat that originates from the breeding of multiple breeds, the kittens tend to have different characteristics....some will have the loud Siamese cry, or some will get the soft little voice from the other parent. Kinda like kids...lol Hoping the best for your kitten...

Re: Siamese or ....?
I have a similar cat. He's a mixed breed known as a Snowshoe Siamese. Siamese mixed with American white short hair. Look up that breed or ask your Vet...Flying red horse
