Storm Escaping the Sierra's
It happens all of a sudden; one second the skies are bright, the next, everything darkens as clouds find their way across the summit, dampening everything in their path. This picture is included in the If you are not enjoying the journey, you probably won't enjoy the destination - Sierra Nevada's 2013 photo album belonging to Badger. I wonder what the storm will look like when Jesus comes back? Thanks for sharing this awesome picture!

Posted at 20 Apr 2013 at 3:32PM by JUST CALL ME PATCH WILLIAM Re: Storm Escaping the Sierra's nope don't worry about the earthquakes and i was bad at saying anything south of santa barbara could fall into the ocean and make Phoenix a seaport...lol...i spent 24 years in the san francisco bay area and if it wasn't so expensive now i would go back again....lol
Posted at 22 Apr 2013 at 12:12AM by catlover Re: Storm Escaping the Sierra's The storms here are very dramatic, even more so than on the California side! It's a funny thing about the rare California earth quake: People back east comment that's why they would never live in California, yet, they suffer yearly hurricanes and tornadoes... Posted at 22 Apr 2013 at 7:04PM by Badger Re: Storm Escaping the Sierra's Guess it is because of the survival rate or something. I have been to California and when there, I always walk the streets where the lower nuildings were and away from the taller buildings and just look for the power lines to stay away from too. My mom loved it but i could get rid of the feeling of those buildings collapsing on me. LOL I have watched tornadoes from the distance and even had a funnel cloud go right over me and not been as scared as when I was in California.
Posted at 22 Apr 2013 at 9:04PM by JUST CALL ME PATCH WILLIAM Re: Storm Escaping the Sierra's Well yes, it's the death rate that would concern me too which is my point...if you note the statistics, the death rate from California earth quakes is far less yearly than that of hurricanes and tornadoes lol.
Posted at 22 Apr 2013 at 9:15PM by Badger Re: Storm Escaping the Sierra's Agreed but I have never been through a hurricane so the only winds I have experienced is the tornado. It is during those winds that it can be a bit scarey but I don;t look at it as a possible death. I look at it as the hand of God displaying a portion of his awesome power. I love warch a storm and knowing I can survive until God decides it is my time and I am ready to go when he calls me home. An earthquake will bury how many people alive and I have a very bad fear of enclosures where I can't get out.

• Nationwide, hurricanes annually account for an average of 17 deaths (www.loep.state.la.us)
EARTHQUAKE MYTHOLOGY OR...DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR!If the Earth moves beneath our feet, is it because Atlas shrugged? In a bygone era, some folks may have believed that theory, but even today there are earthquake anecdotes that aren't exactly the stuff of modern science. Let's take a look at a few of them:California could fall into the sea because of an earthquake. The San Andreas Fault System is the dividing line between two tectonic plates. The Pacific Plate is moving in a northwesterly direction relative to the North American plate. The movement is horizontal, so while Los Angeles is moving toward San Francisco, California won't sink. However, earthquakes can cause landslides, slightly changing the shape of the coastline. The ground can open up and swallow people. You've seen the image in books, movies and TV shows. That's not how it works. If a fault could open up, there wouldn't be any friction. Without friction, there's no earthquake. But earthquakes cause settling and other ground deformation that can include open fissures into which people, cars, etc., can fall. The safest place to be in an earthquake is under a doorway. That's true only if you live in an un-reinforced adobe home. In a modern structure the doorway is no stronger than the rest of the building. Actually, you're more likely to be hurt (by the door swinging wildly) in a doorway. And in a public building, you could be in danger from people trying to hurry outside. If you're inside, get under a table or desk and hang on to it. Earthquakes are becoming more frequent. Research shows that earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 or greater have remained fairly constant throughout the century and have actually decreased in recent years. However, since there are a greater number of seismological centers and instruments capable of locating many small earthquakes that went undetected in earlier years, it may seem as if there are more. There's nothing I can do about earthquakes, so why worry about them? It's true that earthquakes can't be stopped, but you can be prepared. You can prepare an earthquake kit (food, water, flashlight, etc.), practice "duck, cover and hold" drills at home with your family and at work, and develop an earthquake plan (where would you meet family members if you weren't together when an earthquake hit?). Don't remember which book it was in but that proves to me the earth can open up when God gets angry. One day soon, we are going to be called home and then those left behind will regret their not believing.

Only thing was, I didn't feel them but my pictures on the wall were moved and I was thinking that strange before I heard it was an earthquake.

Posted at 23 Apr 2013 at 3:03PM by Badger Re: Storm Escaping the Sierra's I lived in California and I only felt 1 Earthquake. It's a funny feeling. It's like somebody is doing your walking for you and it shook along with something like a sliding. I had a hard time looking to the east at their mountains. And that to the east, they do have snow. Coming from Colorado, as we drove to California, they had some beautiful places, I loved Nevada, towards those mountains also. But I was laughed at too, they used to say and their's jenni sitting in the middle of the ocean on her little tiny island. I told them, when I'm there it's not going to happen. I found Pasadena to be a beautiful place and very expensive, but not as expensive as Hollywood. Still I grew up in the Mountains in Colorado and I missed it very much. But I do have to say the weather in Nevada beats the very cold and the very hot weather, it's like a go between in weather. It seemed hat way when I went thru there, both times.

Posted at 9 May 2013 at 3:20AM by jenni Re: Storm Escaping the Sierra's Thx for all that info, I hope that it was ok to copy it... I have learned a lot. Mary Thx again. You are a sweet lady. Posted at 9 May 2013 at 3:46AM by jenni Re: Storm Escaping the Sierra's It sure is jenni! Nevada does have the best of both worlds, at least here in Carson City where the cool winds blow over from Lake Tahoe. Las Vegas and Reno both get far too hot. Never been in a hurricane, so it's hard to compare. Guess we are all simply most comfortable with what we know first hand. Posted at 9 May 2013 at 7:21PM by Badger Re: Storm Escaping the Sierra's Yes we are. You take care and HAVE A NICE DAY AND A NICE AND HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY. YOUR CHILDREN ARE BEAUTIFUL.
Posted at 9 May 2013 at 7:32PM by jenni Re: Storm Escaping the Sierra's A most wonderful HAPPY_MOTHERS_DAY to you too jenni!! Posted at 9 May 2013 at 7:59PM by Badger Re: Storm Escaping the Sierra's Oh thank you soooo much.
