They are buetos, which are hawks with rounded wings, osprey wings are longer. It could have been a male red-tail, which are smaller than females. If we could see the head on your pic, that would verify it, as ospreys have that bold dark stripe across their eyes on a plain white head, quite different from any hawks. I've painted them both, so have had a chance to study their details & still think it's a hawk, probably a red-tail, which you photographed. Whichever it is, it must've been a thrill to see.
