They are saying in the news that people there were aware of the mudslide potential, but I never heard anything about it during the many years living there. In fact, we felt very safe there. You don't think about hills toppling down on you when living in the mountains. The area is so pristine, green and strikingly beautiful, full of wildlife and the echoing call of coyotes. It makes you want to drink in the cold evergreen air and luxuriate under the spell of the mountain peaks. Looking at some of these pics, you can see there are tall foothills surrounding the entire valley, with mountain peaks rising above. It could have happened anywhere in that community.
