Posted at 2 Mar 2017 at 11:37PM by poohbear Re: Gracie, a rescue mare we took in Was she laying down a lot? Is that how her skin got irritated? What were they thinking? Did they not have the proper room for her???

Posted at 6 Mar 2017 at 10:18PM by Churchgoer Re: Gracie, a rescue mare we took in I have a couple of online friends who run a farm for animal rescue. It is such a difficult task that depends so much on the largess of others. It's times like these I dream of winning a mega lottery just so I can give people like you and those online friends the money.
Posted at 6 Mar 2017 at 11:41PM by Scheherizade Re: Gracie, a rescue mare we took in Poor thing died. She was too starved to take in even simple nutrition and coliced, twisting her compromised gut due to a lack of muscle. Equine colic is a relatively common disorder of the digestive system. Although the term colic, in the true definition of the word, simply means “abdominal pain,” the term in horses refers to a condition of severe abdominal discomfort characterized by pawing, rolling, and sometimes the inability to defecate. Torsion or twisting of the gut in horses, also known as a volvulus, can occur in the large intestine or small intestine and is one of the more serious causes of colic. With a lack of muscle, there was nothing to keep her gut from twisting. Posted at 7 Mar 2017 at 3:31PM by Badger Re: Gracie, a rescue mare we took in Greencat - It wasn't rain rot, but crusted manure from laying down in the confines of a small stall that was never cleaned. The stall had 12 foot tall brick walls, but when she stood, there was so much poop and muck in there that she almost could have stepped over the wall. It was a truly horrific case of neglect. I didn't dare bathe her because she would have chilled in our cold weather. We lightly brushed her but even that was almost torture as her skin was so scabbed from laying in the caustic muck. However, the only reason we can figure she survived in there so long without water was due to the moisture of the muck absorbing through her skin.
Posted at 7 Mar 2017 at 3:39PM by Badger Re: Gracie, a rescue mare we took in OH MY GOSH!!! Reading this just really makes me not like those previous owners!!! What was their excuse??? God knows, but still, oh my gosh!!! I'm so glad Gracie had love before she passed away. It was probably the first time she felt peace at all. Oh, Lord, I cannot even imagine, I'm so glad she had you, if even for a short time!!! Posted at 7 Mar 2017 at 5:35PM by Churchgoer Re: Gracie, a rescue mare we took in I'm so sorry to hear you lost her. But, as Churchgoer said, her last days were filled with compassion and caring. Bless you.

Posted at 7 Mar 2017 at 7:23PM by Badger Re: Gracie, a rescue mare we took in Oh I just don't have the words to describe how truly horrible I feel for that poor horse! Why in the HECK do people treat their animals so badly? There should be jail time involved and those people shouldn't be allowed to own/run any type of farm/ranch ever again!!!!! Do you know if anything was done to those horrible people? Were they even fined?????

Posted at 10 Mar 2017 at 10:59PM by Badger Re: Gracie, a rescue mare we took in So they just moved and left those poor animals all alone with nothing??? That's SOOOOO wrong on so many levels!!! Posted at 10 Mar 2017 at 11:06PM by poohbear (You must be logged in to post comments) |
