Soft Beak

When parrot chicks hatch, their beaks are as soft as tissue, and the lower beak appears to be almost "lip" like.

Re: Soft Beak
It's ama[zing how when thry still have their eyes closed they seem to look through them! How long before he opened his eyes after hatching?

Re: Soft Beak
It is! It has to do with the eye lid membrane being so thin when they are first hatched, they really can see through it. Funny looking too, with their eyes obviously closed but their little head is following you even when you aren't talking or making noise. It can vary when chicks open their eyes. Davi opened his first eye when just a little under two weeks old, but Icarus was over three weeks old.

Icarus - that's Icky! I love the names you have given your beautiful darlings, they are so elegant - Icarus and Davinci - and yet are so easily turned into an affectionate diminutive, Icky and Davi. I think I will take a page from your book, Mary, next time we have baby birds to name!
