Having raised birds for 4-H projects and for the ranch, there is no greater experience nursing a pullet (or whatever this is called) to being on it's own. I've been following this with interest.

I agree with you Sir Gilmour, there is no greater experience than nursing a bird to maturity (pullets/chickens vs chicks/parrots). When I had chickens (Leghorns and Rhode Island Reds), you would often find me out in the coop talking to them...kind of silly huh. Baby parrots are simply called "chicks". As their feathers start to come through, they may be referred to as "fledglings", but chicks is the most common term. Baby parrots are far more human like than people understand until they have seen and experienced one first hand. Pullets too, but parrot chicks stay helpless so much longer (months vs days), especially when still featherless, with their little arms and legs and infantile cries, it's incredibly endearing.
