Ick's Freshly Rebuilt Playgym
Seems I have to rebuild the bird gym every other month or so, as the wood curls and the birds tear it apart, but hey, that's what the gym is for! This time, I cut down a rather large manzanita branch in hopes it will dry straighter and not need be replaced so soon. Disassembling the old one and reassembling the new one takes about four hours. Once disassembled, everything needs a good wash with soap and water. Toys repaired (birds are very destructive) and broken toys tossed or refurbished into new ones. Reassembling, various branches need to be wrapped with jute so your birds can easily climb and maneuver from branch to branch without becoming intimidated by sliding. Why take the time? Parrots are so like children, without play, they quickly become bored and depressed. The original bird gym is the short metal stand you see below the "tree". Now imagine you are a bird...which would you be more content with? This picture is included in the On a wing and a prayer - Life with Icarus photo album belonging to Badger.
