spacer40 Best Recipe Contest for September's recipe contest is: Chicken! Chicken is the most common type of poultry in the world. Owing to the relative ease and low cost of raising chickens—in comparison to mammals such as cattle or hogs—chicken meat and chicken eggs have become prevalent in numerous cuisines. Chicken can be prepared in a vast range of ways, including baking, grilling, barbecuing, frying, and boiling. Since the latter half of the 20th century, prepared chicken has become a staple of fast food. Chicken is sometimes cited as being more healthful than red meat, with lower concentrations of cholesterol and saturated fat.

(#5615325) Cabbage, Kielbasa and Potatoes
Posted by Clivia on 5 Jul 2024 at 8:58AM
Best made in a 12" iron skillet with lid

1 small, or 1/2 large green cabbage - chopped and divided
4-5 med russet potatoes - peeled and coined (about 1/2" slices) - divided
1 13-16oz kielbasa - beef or turkey cut into angled 1/4" slices - divided
1-2 cups chicken stock
salt and pepper to taste

Heat and lightly oil/butter bottom of skillet and layer half of potatoes - season
Layer half of cabbage - season
Layer half of kielbasa
Repeat layers seasoning potatoes and cabbage and ending with kielbasa.
Pour in stock, cover, bring to a boil, then simmer for about 20 minutes.
Check for doneness of potatoes and cabbage and check for salt and pepper

Easiest to put layers on paper plates and volume is only restricted by the depth of the skillet - this is a favorite camping recipe.
