(#5606320) May Entry - Lake Erie Mirage
Posted by (steelbound) on 29 May 2024 at 6:04AM Fata Morgana, according to wiki, is a type of superior mirage that occurs when light is bent through layers of different temperatures in a steep temperature inversion where an atmospheric duct is present. Normally, I could only see about 5 miles out from where I'm standing. This ship, the Isabella G, was 18-20 miles off shore - behind the curvature of the Earth - and should not have been visible. However, because of the effects of this mirage, I was briefly able to see the Isabella G before it disappeared.
