Posted by Pinksmoke on 28 Aug 2025 at 7:17AMI so agree. Maybe you need two photo zones. One for us ordinary people and one for the photographers that know all the high tech stuff.
(#5708034) Re: Photozone Rules on this
Posted by z71cat on 28 Aug 2025 at 6:30AMPersonally I miss the photo zone that was fun and uncomplicated. Anyone could put in a point and shoot picture. Now it's very complicated and nit picky.no longer fun at all. Sorry just my personal opinion.
(#5708020) Re: Photozone Rules on this
Posted by Photozone Zepher on 28 Aug 2025 at 5:10AMCan you enter the image without the blurred background?
(#5707982) Re: Photozone Rules on this
Posted by Jools on 28 Aug 2025 at 12:25AMI would say blurring the background is adding / removing detail.
It could have been done without post production by good use of depth of field
(#5707944) Re: Photozone Rules on this
Posted by Scheherizade on 27 Aug 2025 at 4:13PMDid not change the main subject (tree). Background blurred for the Adamski Effect. Cropped and straightened.
(#5707912) Photozone Rules on this
Posted by Photozone Zepher on 27 Aug 2025 at 1:40PMPost production images are welcome as long as they abide by the following conditions...
No detail was added or removed to make the change the main subject of the image
Increase/decrease existing detail such as color, brightness, contrast and/or tone =

Adding / editing detail =
To:
Scheherizade Did you do any of the above to your image entry?
(#5707874) Re: Adamski By the Brook
Posted by Sea of vapours on 27 Aug 2025 at 7:00AMAny photo created using a digital camera, and which is not in RAW format, has been 'post processed' by the camera. Cameras interpret the scene and employ varying, and often very considerable, degrees of contrast / colour/ tonal modification depending on what it 'thinks' the image is and what it thinks the typical viewer will see as 'real' or 'good'. Those are all choices made by the camera's firmware developers, so they are effectively doing the 'post processing'. If a photographer takes the RAW file and post processes it in Photoshop, or any other application(s), then that is a major part of the creative process.

Posted by Jools on 26 Aug 2025 at 2:10PMI always thought any post production other than cropping or minor colour / brightness correction was disallowed for the contests.
If that's no longer the case then perhaps updated rules are needed.
The Zephyr's profile notes the rules
(#5707664) Re: Adamski By the Brook
Posted by Scheherizade on 26 Aug 2025 at 7:42AMI adore you, Pat. You are always my champion. However ... ... ... Any photographer worth their salt, uses a photo processing app.
Any digital dslr photographer who shoots in RAW (which I do) will touch up a photo, even if it is to just convert it to a 'picture file', straighten it, or crop it. Lightroom and Photoshop are today what the darkroom was when film still existed for everyone. Even Ansel Adams touched up his photography during darkroom processing.
If I shot in film (which I wish I could afford) I could get this effect - in the darkroom. Today, though, modern digital photographers will use tools to convert a RAW file to .JPG, add effects like this, for extra story telling. I learned this technique from my 52Frames Photography Challenge. There are professional photographers that participate in this weekly self-challenge that do stuff like this all of the time. The major taboo is using AI to generate/enhance a photographic image. Absolutely NO AI.
As to the effect itself: "The Adamski effect owes its name to its creator, Josh Adamski (Tel Aviv 1948), a photographer who defines his work as a photo impressionism himself. Through blur techniques and creating the illusion of movement, his images adopt an abstract tone, often dreamlike and pictorial. His style has become popular and it is increasingly common to find images imitating his technique."
I highly recommend even hobby photographers research old photography techniques and famous photographers to expand your knowledge base. It's fascinating discovering new (old) photography.

(#5703686) The Theme for August's Competition will be:
Posted by Photozone Zepher on 7 Aug 2025 at 5:30AM
In photography, the rule of thirds is a type of composition in which an image is mentally divided evenly into thirds, both horizontally and vertically, and the subject of the image is placed at the intersection of those dividing lines, or along one of the lines itself.
The rule of thirds is one of the most useful composition techniques in photography. It's an important concept to learn as it can be used in all types of photography to produce images which are more engaging and better balanced.
Of course, rules should never be applied blindly, particularly in art, so you should think of it more as a handy "rule of thumb" rather than one that's set in stone. However, it will produce a pleasing photo more often than not, and is an excellent starting point for any composition.
The idea is that an off-centre composition is more pleasing to the eye and looks more natural than one where the subject is placed right in the middle of the frame. It also encourages you to make creative use of negative space, the empty areas around your subject.
