Harry the hairdresser would accommodate ladies with no money by  allowing them to pay by "chore instalments" and then finish his work after the completion of set tasks. While publicly embarrassing, shopping was regard as preferable to the gardening and window cleaning options - to say nothing about the "massage"...



(Long for a caption I know, but possibly the basis for a novel 😊 )
