Posted by Sir Gilmour of the GoldTable on 28 Jul 2024 at 1:30AM Some context for the NBA's business decision: Amazon Prime Video subscribers: Over 200 million and growing. Max, TNT's online partner: almost 100 million and growing. TNT prime time U.S. cable viewers: 965,000 and has been declining. U.S. cable subscribers: 76 million and declining. Cable TV ad revenue in 2022, U.S. only: $72.1 billion annually and growing. Streaming video, U.S. only: estimated at $105 billion annually and growing. Add in music streaming, total reaches $169.9 billion annually. So, yes, cable TV will linger even as it has historically lost 3 million to 4 million customers a year. The growth globally is in streaming video online, which should make the NBA's decision clearer. And if you want sources on the data, I can readily provide them so you can read the details yourself. Posting links seems to blow minds here from the minders.
