Posted by Jools on 1 Apr 2025 at 1:55AM So what you are saying is completely irrelevant here then. As the original rules of senet have been lost over time, slight variations will apply, but ive seen no mention of pieces ever reversing in Bell or Kendall's rules (#5677861) Re: can this game be won or do we need to offer a draw?
Posted by ringebri on 1 Apr 2025 at 1:28AM On goldtoken, what you say is true. The rules on boardgame arena, the rules are different.Landing on that space, by exact count, is mandatory for all pieces on BGA. Also, if you cannot move forward by the dice roll, you must move backwards in the BGA version. Come to BGA and try a senet game. The game there makes more sense than any of the versions here on goldtoken.

Posted by Jools on 30 Mar 2025 at 4:21AM But you can't skip that space, any number rolled lands on it
(#5677452) Re: can this game be won or do we need to offer a draw?
Posted by ringebri on 30 Mar 2025 at 3:22AM In their rules, only a roll of a 1 by the player who owns the piece on the 4th space would cause the two pieces to swap. Any other number would cause the piece on the 4th space to move in reverse that number of spaces.

(#5677191) Re: can this game be won or do we need to offer a draw?
Posted by ringebri on 29 Mar 2025 at 7:40AM The rules, as found on Boardgame Arena, would not allow this draw to happen. Just saying!

Posted by eliphont551 on 28 Mar 2025 at 6:07AM Thanks Jools. Hmm, maybe I should have looked at the rules before posting. LOL ![]() (#5676969) Re: can this game be won or do we need to offer a draw?
Posted by Jools on 28 Mar 2025 at 5:57AM Not played this variant, but looking at the rules it seems it will end itself as a draw If both players perform the same move three times with no other move inbetween, the game is assumed to be stuck, and is declared a draw. (#5676959) can this game be won or do we need to offer a draw?
Posted by eliphont551 on 28 Mar 2025 at 5:35AM I have not played very many games of Swapping Senet. I think we are at a stand off. Should I offer a draw? This is an Olympic game so I want to do the right thing. #14625806 |
