Wiki or HTML "Tricks"

I posted some of these at { Board: Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wiki }. The dot-and-space trick might be an html trick rather than a wiki trick.

One-Space Indenting
A space at the beginning of a line produces an indentation if wiki is being used. (It makes the print smaller and puts it a line lower otherwise, something I just noticed here.)

  1. No space at beginning
  2. Space at beginning
  3. Neutralized wiki

before (1516 PF) (1503 PF) after WON this Game #0000000 at 22 (1506 PF) (1513 PF) -10 +10 Good game Well-fought!!

before (1516 PF) (1503 PF) after WON this Game #0000000 at 22 (1506 PF) (1513 PF) -10 +10 Good game Well-fought!!

*_/before/_* (/1516/ PF) (1503 PF) *_/after/ WON /this/ { game#0000000 } /at 22/_* (*/1506/* PF) (*_1513_* PF) -10 +10 Good game *Well-fought!!*

Dot-and-Space Neutralizes
Putting a dot (a period) and a space at the beginning of a line renders wiki inactive. (It does not affect Goldies and Jamble Letters though. See above.)
This preserves long links from being cut short or truncated.
Nested Neutralization
If you wish someone else to be able to copy and paste a neutralized line leaving it still neutralized do the dot-and-space twice. I shall do it three times to show you. I first tried this trick today, March 27, 2013. Once, twice, thrice right below. Smiling (I had to include one more dot-and-space than shows to you.)
. *_/before/_* (/1516/ PF) (1503 PF) *_/after/ WON /this/ { game#0000000 } /at 22/_* (*/1506/* PF) (*_1513_* PF) -10 +10
. . *_/before/_* (/1516/ PF) (1503 PF) *_/after/ WON /this/ { game#0000000 } /at 22/_* (*/1506/* PF) (*_1513_* PF) -10 +10
. . . *_/before/_* (/1516/ PF) (1503 PF) *_/after/ WON /this/ { game#0000000 } /at 22/_* (*/1506/* PF) (*_1513_* PF) -10 +10

Jamble Letters Within Other Wiki
Jamble Letters can be inside wiki without keeping it from working.
before (1516 PF) (1503 PF) after WON this Game #0000000 at 22 (1506 PF) (1513 PF) -10 +10
before (1516 PF) (1503 PF) after *WON this Game #0000000 at 22* (1506 PF) (1513 PF) -10 +10
I did that by putting two tildes, that is, ~~, on each side of WON -- ~~ WON ~~ with the spaces around WON removed.

Rules: Game
Rules of Backgammon = http://www.goldtoken.com/games/play?rules=Backgammon
{ Rules: Backgammon } = http://www.goldtoken.com/games/play?rules=Backgammon
I tried this on January 4, 2012, and it worked. How many other unused wiki tricks are out there?

To make such a "Rules of (a particular game)" link one needs to be sure to put the right thing after Rules:. One can find that right thing by going through the motions of sending an invitation for that game variant without actually sending the invitation to find a hyperlink from which one can borrow that "right thing".

This is how I found the right words to use to make Rules of African-American Straight Checkers after I noticed that "Rules:African-American Straight Checkers" did not work.
This is how I found the right words to use to make { Rules:CheckMixed } after I noticed that "Rules:African-American Straight Checkers" did not work.
I also noticed a slightly different way which also would have worked. I note that in italics below.
I
  1. clicked on the link New Game http://www.goldtoken.com/games/newgame which you can find at the top and bottom of the page,
  2. clicked on the link for the family of the game for which I wished to make the link (Checkers and variants in this case)
  3. clicked on the link (see Rules) to the right of the variant I wanted (African-American Straight Checkers (see Rules) in this case)
I could instead have
3. clicked on the name of the variant itselfAfrican-American Straight Checkers

More Detail on Rules Links

I later noticed that sometimes making a Rules: link is not so fussy:
{ Rules:CheckersArg } and { Rules:Argentinian Checkers } look the same when active.
  • Sometimes making such a link is fussy. Then follow the procedure I worked out. Here is another one which is fussyTourne-case.
Do{ Rules:Tourne-case }andRules of Tourne-casegive the same link?NO
| Do | { Rules:Tourne-case } | and | { Rules:BackVTourne } | give the same link? | NO |
Boldface Works Around Goldies

Posted on 30 Jun at 7:47AM by M3

Today, 2013 June 30, I discovered that boldface works around a Goldie. I wished to make combination which I know from trying will not be darkened by putting the start around it -- #5 -- and so tried putting the Goldie for resign before it and then putting the stars around the whole group. It worked!
Resign#5
*::resign ::#5*
Try it. Smiling
Boldface Works Around Jiggle Words Too

**Drew* #2* lets one boldface the number symbol just like using an ordinary letter or number would. Drew #2 works. *#2* does not work.
