Best Recipe Contest

March's winner is: German Red Cabbage

German Red Cabbage
Red cabbage changes colour based on the acidity content, so vinegar is essential to keep the deep purple colour.

This recipe is based on a smallish 1kg / 2 lb cabbage, adjust ingredients if using a larger cabbage.

Ingredients
1 red cabbage, (also called purple cabbage)
1 small onion, finely chopped
2-3 floz cider vinegar, wine vinegar can be used if adding apple
1 tblsp balsamic vinegar
2 oz brown sugar
3-4 cloves
1 small cooking apple (optional), finely chopped or shredded
1 tblsp virgin olive oil
salt & pepper to taste
dash of Worcester sauce
a little water

Method
Remove the outer leaves from the cabbage and cut into quarters. remove and discard the inner core stalk (I used to call these pine trees as a kid).
sliced and chop the cabbage into roughly 1/4" pieces.

Heat the olive oil in a large pan and add the onion and Worcester sauce. Saute gently until the onion softens.
Add the sugar, vinegars, seasoning, cloves and about 2 floz of water, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
Add the cabbage (and apple is using) and mix well.
Reduce the heat, cover pan and simmer gently for about an hour until cabbage is tender. Keep an eye on the pan and add more water if need to ensure the cabbage doesn't burn.
You can adjust the amount of sugar to your personal taste.

Can be kept in the fridge for 2-3 days and also freezes well.

1. What brought you to GoldToken?

• A friend on another game site

How'd you choose your name for GT?

• My name is a shortened version of the town where I live

2. What interests you most on GT?

• The wide choice of games and the friendliness of all the players

3. Do you belong to any of the clubs? How about the chat only clubs (birds, kitties, garden)?

• Yes, I belong to lots of clubs

4. What state or country do you reside in?

• I live in the country on a small farm in Oklahoma

What in your state or country do you think tourists should definitely see?

• My town is a great place to live and/or retire

5. What hobbies do you have?

• My hobbies are reading, hand crafts

What other interests do you have?

• Lots of volunteering, crocheting, working with GT and family.

6. Children?

• I have 2 grown sons, 2 daughters-in-law

Grandchildren?

• 5 grandchildren one great granddaughter, and another on the way

7. Do you work? If so, what kind of work do you do?

• My husband and I are retired teachers but we own and operate a small jersey dairy farm. Dairy farming is my husband's hobby.

8. Any pets?

• We have 2 dogs and 3 cats.

9. Are you under 30?___ 30 to 50? ___ or over 50?

• over 50

10. What are you looking forward to in this New Year?

• I look forward to good health and happiness!

11. Favorite food?

• My favorite food is spaghetti

12. If you could be anywhere right now, where would that be?

• If I could be anywhere right now I would be right where I am ...at home , but with all my family

13. Favorite season?

• My favorite season is Spring when everything is new and it's not too hot yet ;;gaeden1;;

14.If you could meet anyone (alive or dead) who would it be?

• Not meet, but I would love to be with and talk to my mother
