You three have proven your worth among players as GoldToken's top performing game athletes of 2011. Good job!! 2012 Olympics! As we wind down last years Olympics, the 2012 games have begun. to all and ! It looks to be another exciting year of high competition and fun. Still to be unveiled, Mecir has designed several mystery games our Olympians will surely enjoy. Be sure to keep watch as the games are begun in weekly rounds and the first winners announced right here, in our newsletter. More Recognition Tokens We are pleased to announce the addition of these fun new tokens in Recognition Tokens - GoldToken's Treasure Trove:
...and a fun game token, Playing 24/7 - , already awarded to only one players profile. Claim it by telling where it's currently at and it will be transfered to your account. Once a year (a random date each December), who ever holds it gets a 2 month Silver membership prize or extension of their current membership. So no spoofing it! searching! The Interview I haven't ever said much about myself because GoldToken is really all about you, the players who love the type of website GoldToken is. You are the ones who have made this lovely place special by your continued support, helpful ideas, suggestions and warmth. So what does a little ole badger say when someone wants an interview? Oh well, here it is, JimC's Badger interview: 1) It must take a lot of work to keep on top of everything at Goldtoken. Do you manage to find time for yourself? It does, but thankfully, we have a number of players who help by volunteering their time and energy to keep things running smoothly....and that's the only reason I do have time for myself. 2) What's the biggest change to Goldtoken you've seen over the years?Without a doubt, the biggest change/improvement to GoldToken is...Tomas! Without him and his skilled coding diligence here, GoldToken would just be another game site. Mecir is why we have so many new games, features and that certain energy about this incredible place. 3) There must be a sizeable number of people supporting Goldtoken. Are they mainly volunteers? If so, are volunteers hard to find?GoldToken has a huge number of volunteers, and no, they are not hard to find. I think that's what makes GoldToken special amoung game sites...websites for that matter. Everyone chipping in or helping each other makes for that unique and warm comradery you see here. From graphics to game design, support and the running of clubs. Everyone has a valued voice in what happens or doesn't happen on GoldToken. 4) Without giving away trade secrets - are there any radical changes in the pipeline? Any plans to exploit new technologies such as smart phones?I don't know about how radical our future plans are, but yes, there are huge changes in the pipeline. The place to read about them before they are released is on the Platinum Members DB. 5) How do new players tend to find their way here? Is it through advertising, or word of mouth? Do many people find it through search engines?Sadly, the recession and it's slow recovery has hit everyone hard, including GoldToken. Consequently, we do very little advertizing these days (it costs considerably more than we can afford at this time lol), but we do see consistant growth by word of mouth and search engines just the same. 6) You're not planning on retiring anytime soon... right?Nope, no retirement in site for me, nor do I want one. For one thing, I still love what I do here. GoldToken fills my days with energy and a sense of purpose that can't be found any place else. It's the same reason our site volunteers love their share in what they do here, why they find aspiration and that "all out hankering to contribute" to the greater cause. After all, there is no better prospect in life than to simply love what we do! for the thoughtful interview Jim! You have always been an awesome contributer!! Site Promotions! I am most pleased to announce these well deserved advancements in GoldToken's volunteer ranks:

Feeling upwardly mobile? Why not check out one of our many Ladders? What is a ladder? Almost everyone is familiar with the concept of a gaming ladder. Each player occupies a rung of the ladder. New players start at the bottom rung. Players on lower rungs challenge those on higher rungs to games, and if they win, they move up to the higher rung. After enough games are played, the ladder will represent, more or less, the relative skill level of the players in the ladder, with the best players at the top of the ladder. But how does that work on a turn-based gaming site? While this concept works well for games that may take an evening to play in over the board competition, it isn't extremely well-suited for correspondence gaming, where a game can take several months to play. By having to challenge each player on higher rungs, it could take a great player literally years or dozens of years to climb to the top of a ladder with only a few hundred players in it. So we've taken the basic ladder concept and tweaked it a bit so that it works well in a turn-based gaming environment by making the following changes:
What will happen if I join a ladder? When you join a ladder, you will be listed among the players on rung 1. If there are any players on that rung who are not currently engaged in a ladder game against another player, then you will be scheduled to play against that player within about 24 hours. Otherwise, you will not be scheduled in a ladder game until an opponent is available. You will only have one ladder challenge game at a time from that ladder. The game will have a timeout period of 3 days, and your vacation days and days off will apply to that timeout period. If you time out, you will lose the game. After you finish a game, you may end up with a period of time where an opponent in the ladder is not available to start a new game, so you will not necessarily always have a ladder challenge game in progress. However, as soon as an opponent is available, you will be scheduled against that opponent within about 24 hours. The one exception to this is if you tie a game against an opponent, and that player is the only player available in your rung. In that case, you will not be immediately rescheduled against the same player that you just played. Instead, you will both wait for another opponent to become available, after which one of you will be randomly scheduled against that opponent. How do I join a ladder? Go to your gamesheet, and click on Tournaments. Then, click See Ladder Tournaments. From there, you can scroll through the various ladder games available. Click the box next to the game of your choice, and you will be added to the bottom rung in that ladder. No need to do anything else or send out challenges. The database will automatically add you to a match when a player becomes available. Return to the ladder page to join more ladders.

November's winner is: Fruit Salad
Fruit Salad A Fruit Salad is really good especially when you use fresh fruit-chopped up small-like apples-red seedless grapes cut in half-a few chunks of oranges-diced up pears-a jar of the maraschino(red) cherries-a heaping handful of english walnuts-and a can of mixed fruit is permitted-banana's-sliced just before serving. You can add or take away but it's really good fixed the night before and let all the juices marry in the fridge. This and turkey go great together. **~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~** 1. What brought you to GoldToken? JimC Someone I used to play on It's Your Turn recommended GoldToken. How'd you choose your name for GT? Everyone calls me Jim, so I guess it chose itself! 2. What interests you most on GT? I came here for the backgammon. There are some very strong players and my game has improved a lot. But i suspect it's as good as it's ever going to get. I also enjoy some of the discussion boards. There are some very interesting ideas and opinions. 3. Do you belong to any of the clubs? I joined The United Atheist League Club a few years ago. If you're a fan of South Park you will recognise the joke behind the club name. The founder of the club left and somehow I became the owner. I'm the worst club owner - I can't be bothered to organise games and suchlike. But the discussion board is always lively and interesting. It should really be called the Philosophy Club but that's not as funny. And The Parliamentarians Club is a great forum for political discussions. 4. What State or Country do you reside in? I live in England, England which means I am English. That also makes British. My passport says "UK". The politicians tell me I'm European. So I live in four places at once. Do you live in the City or Country? My home is in London - the greatest city in the world! What in your State or Country do you think tourist should definitely see? The UK is such a tiny place you'd think tourists could see it all in a few days. England is about the same size as Pennsylvania. But there's a lot to see. it depends on your interests. I'd recommend Hampton Court, Kew Gardens, open topped bus tour of London, afternoon tea at The Ritz, Harrods, Stonehenge. And make sure you experience some proper English beer, fish & chips, a full English breakfast and a Sunday roast dinner (not at the same time). If you refer countryside and hiking, or being near the sea, we've got plenty of that too. 5. What hobbies to you have? Photography plus building my collection of records. I'm always on the hunt for rarities. Charity shops are like Aladdin's cave to me. I also collect music magazines and books. What other interest do you have? My other interests are science, philosophy, psychology, history and religion. And since the grandchildren arrived I also have renewed interests in Hot Wheels and Lego. 6. Children? Grandchildren? Three children - all grown up now. Two grandchildren. Yes I know it's hard to believe given my youthful good looks. Do any of them play on GT? They don't play on GT - they are too busy posting pictures and cryptic messages on Facebook. They each seem to have thousands of friends. How is that possible? 7. Do you work? If so what kind of work do you do? I'm currently working for a secure mental healthcare facility. Some people reading this might suggest that I'm a patient but no, really I work there. Do you enjoy your job? Honestly. I'm not imagining it. Or am I? Anyway, it's the most interesting, educational and rewarding work I have ever done. 8. Any pets? Two cats share my and some chickens share part of my garden. But technically they are not mine. When my daughter left home she had two kittens and realised she couldn't look after them, so my wife "adopted" them. Then my wife decided chickens would be a great hobby. 9. Are you under 30?___ 30 to 50? ___ or over 50? My birth certificate says i'm over 50 but I'm convinced I'm 19. I think I fell through a time warp or something. 10. What's the farthest you been from home? Was it a vacation or for business? The farthest distance in terms of miles was British Columbia. The farthest culturally was China. They were both business trips. But the USA is my favourite destination for both business and pleasure. I have friends, colleagues and family in California, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas. 11. If you could be anywhere right now where would that be? Disneyland! We would like to say to JimC for letting us step into they're personal life for a bit. If there are any questions you would like to see asked in future interviews, please let us know. Laura laura lee
