• Groundhog Day

Every February 2, since 1887, the people of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania have celebrated Groundhog Day. The tradition was brought to the U.S. by German immigrants. Legend has it that if Punxsutawney Phil (the groundhog in question) sees his shadow, there will be more winter weather to come. If he doesn't see his shadow, it means spring weather will arrive soon. This year, Phil did not see his shadow! Today we had our spring weather in Arkansas, as Phil predicted - it was 65*F - but tomorrow we're back to winter weather, with snow expected overnight. I hope your weather is just the way you like it.

Site tips and helpful tools

I really want to play Tabula (or some other game!) but none of my friends play. How can I find an opponent?

There are several ways to find an opponent for a specific game. Have you checked out the "Open Game Invitations" box on the right side of your game sheet? This feature can be enabled (or disabled) in your Preferences, on the Gamesheet tab. You might find a player waiting for an opponent there. Or, you can create your own Open Invitation for others to find by clicking "New Game" and choosing your game options but leaving the opponent name blank. You can also try posting on the game discussion board for that game - look for the "Game Discussions" link at the top of your gamesheet. Have you joined the Ladder for the game you want to play? Click on "Tournaments" at the top of your gamesheet and then click "Ladder Tournaments" to find your game.

Game Of The Month

February's game of the month is Small Havannah! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The Game of the Month - Feb 2020 - Small Havannah Tournament!

In this variant of Hex, there are three possible winning configurations to place your pieces in:

• A ring - a loop around one or more hexagons, regardless on whether they contain any player's pieces or nothing
• A bridge - a connected path between any two of the six corner hexagons
• A fork - a connected path that touches any three edges of the board - corners are not counted

Best Recipe Contest

January's winner is: 7 Bean Chili

• Submitted by Leeeeeesa

This is our family's favorite chili. We've made many changes over the years - but this recipe has stayed unchanged for the last 3 years. LOL Be aware though - it is HOT and it makes A LOT, if you prepare it exactly as written. The best thing about it - it's very customizable!!!

Ingredients
•2 lbs. ground beef
•1 lb. ground venison
•1 large or 2 small onions, chopped (your choice of onion. I usually use 1/2 an onion of 3 different varieties)
•4 cloves of garlic, minced
•1 15.5 oz can EACH of the following: black beans, dk red kidney beans, lt red kidney beans, butter beans, cannellini beans (chickpeas), great northern beans and pinto beans. DO NOT DRAIN
•1-2 cans Tomato Sauce (start with 1, add the other if needed)
•3 cans diced tomatoes - mix and match the flavors - we use Fire Roasted, Seasoned and Ro-Tel (diced tomatoes with green chiles)
•1 cup jalapeno slices with juice
•1 sm can tomato paste
•1 can V8 juice (doesn't matter which kind - we use the Spicy)
•1 can condensed Tomato Soup (do not add milk or water)
•2 Tbsp red pepper flake
•2 Tbsp paprika
•up to a whole cup of chili powder
•2 Tbsp onion powder
•2 Tbsp garlic powder
•1 Tbsp cumin

In a very large pot, brown your meats. DO NOT DRAIN unless you have a LOT of grease. Venison usually doesn't have a lot of fat in it, so leaving the grease helps out. Add the onion and garlic - cook until translucent.

Dump everything else in the pot! All the juices from all the cans. Add all the spices. We usually add the chili powder last, and only add 1/4c at a time. You may or may not need another can of Tomato Sauce.

Let it simmer for 2 hours (or less if your family is like mine). We serve it with corn chips, sour cream and shredded mild cheddar cheese.

We would like to say to Marge44 for letting us step into their personal life for a bit.


1. What brought you to GoldToken, and how'd you choose your name for GT?

• Blackangus played games with me on Pocketmonkey game site and invited me to try GoldToken. My nickname is Marge and I was born in 1944 so I chose Marge44 for my name here.

2. What interests you most on GT? Do you have a favorite game?

• The thing that interests me most on GT is the many, many ways you can play games and the players are always nice. Favorite game if I had to chose just one would be Acey-Deucey.

3. What state or country do you reside in? What do you think tourists should definitely see?

• I live in America. My state is Indiana.
• I love the United States very much and I think they should visit our parks and take drives in small towns and in the country sites and see the farms, covered bridges and friendly people in our small towns.

4. What hobbies do you have?

• I don't know if it is a hobby or not but I enjoy playing games and having lunch with my friends at different restaurants.

5. Children? Grandchildren?

• I have 3 adults sons and 9 grandchildren.

6. Do you work? What kind of work do/did you do?

• I am retired now. I started out being a waitress and last job was secretary.

7. Any pets?

• I just lost my pet of 12 and a half years. His breed was Havenses and his name was Fluffy. We miss him so much.

8. Are you under 30?___ 30 to 50? ___ or over 50?

• I am not ashamed of my age. I am 75 years young.

9. Male or Female?

• I am female

10. What's the farthest you've been from home?

• Went to California in 1963. Florida in 1984.

11. If you could be anywhere right now, where would that be?

• Right where I am at.

12. Favorite season?

• Spring

13. Favorite movie? Favorite TV show?

• There are so many favorite movies I enjoy. Doris Day in Pillow Talk with Rock Hudson, Ghost with Patrick Swayze...the list goes on and on.

14. If you could meet anyone (living or dead) in the world, who would it be?

• My Mama. She died of cancer in 1977 and I still miss and need her everyday.
