For those interested in wiki tournaments, there is a new discussion board for . Be sure to subscribe by checking the subscription box in the upper right hand corner for updates on all tournaments posted. The Olympiads Club is now open for sign up to all interested players. HURRY, as time is limited! Players in The Olympiads Club will be assigned to their prospective Olympic teams by August 15th to give the clubs plenty of time to organize their teams. GoldToken's 2011 Olympic games will begin December 5th. , you must have a silver membership to play in the Olympics. If that is a problem for you, we have a couple volunteer openings in exchange for Silver memberships. Please contact GoldToken Support for details if interested. We are very pleased with GoldToken's new Club AdoptaGuest Program. Interested clubs may adopt one GoldToken newbie every 6 months. In turn, the club helps the newbie learn the ropes of site navigation and hopefully gains a long term and devoted club member.
Tools are being developed to assist clubs in finding newbies that will fit their club environment. Watch the Club Presidents DB for announcements in this regard. Meanwhile, we suggest players watch the Who's Here page, or, use a wiki format to track new players. As life will have it, there are players that will attempt to take advantage of GoldToken's generosity and pretend to be a newbie. We don't want this to stop us from offering this program to anyone, and so give this small heads up: Should the newbie turn out to be a return player, they will be subject to losing their gift membership without notice. Please do not ask why such a membership was removed, as we are unable to go into details due to GoldToken's Privacy Policy. If you suddenly lose such a player, you will be more than welcome to adopt another in their place.Have a wonderful month and play like you mean it! --Badger In this month's newsletter, we have:

How to Wiki - Easy tips for editing one of the best extra features GoldToken has to offer Editing a wiki is very easy and starts with clicking the edit link on the wiki page. Then, all you need do is enter your information and save the edit by clicking the save option at the bottom of the page. Look at the code when you go to edit the page inside, and try to follow what other players have done. If in doubt, there are full instructions on wiki editing on the following pages: Wiki Page Editing[ How to Copy and Paste ][ How to enter a game number ] [ How to enter a name ] [ How to make a new wiki page ] [ How to make a wiki table ] [ Headings, fonts and bullets ] [ Links, lines and spaces ] [ Sample wikis ] [ Wiki Formatting ] [ Wiki Sandbox ] to practice your wiki skills [ Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wiki ] - fatdaddy's teaching wiki.
July's game of the month is Rock Paper Scissors! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The July 2011 Game of the Month - Rock Paper Scissors! Tournament! #1: Inspect all of your opponent's moves closely. If you suspect that they use a pattern (such as SPRSPR or SSPPRR) pick the option that will beat it. #2: Look at your moves. If it looks like YOU use a pattern, then assume your opponent sees this and move accordingly. For example, if you, by coincidence, have played SSPPR, your opponent will expect you to play rock and will play paper. Play scissors and you might catch them off-guard. Every point counts. I don't have much experience with RPS games with more than one opponent, but I think the second strategy could really help in those situations, when it's hard to predict everybody's moves. There is strategy to RPS--not just luck. But good luck anyway! We hope you enjoy it! Special to *Enviro* for writing this month's Game of the Month Nugget. You too, can write a knock-out Nugget and reap the rewards! If your Nugget is chosen as the winner for GoldToken's Game of the Month in GoldToken's Monthly Newsletter, you will win:

This month we interviewed Kiki **~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~** [ July 2011 ] 1. What brought you to GoldToken?.... I've been here so long, I can't remember how I found GoldToken! How'd you choose your name for GT?.... My name was my first cat, Kiki. She was a stray that came into my yard, and I had her for 5 short years, when she became ill. 2. What interest you most on GT?.... My main interest here is playing the games, I like that there is a large number to choose from. I'm not much of a 'chatter', but I have enjoyed meeting people from all over the world here. 3. Do you belong to any of the clubs? How about the chat only clubs (birds, kitties, garden)?.... I belong to a lot of clubs. My main interest had been the tournaments. Those are the only ones I play now. I don't have time for much else right now 4. What State or Country do you reside in?....I live/born east of Buffalo, NY. Do you live in the City or Country?... I live in the country, just outside the city. What in your State or Country do you think tourist should definitely see?... The best things to see here are Niagara Falls, which is about 50 miles from me, and the beautiful scenery of NY in the fall. If you want to see big city life, then New York City is the place to go. 5. What hobbies to you have?.... My main interest right now is volunteering at our local shelter. I usually spend about 20 hours a week there, plus I run our shelter's Ebay store. What other interest do you have?.... I enjoy traveling, but haven't been able to lately. I have been caring for both of my parents for the past year 6. Children?...I have a son and a daughter. Grandchildren?.... I have one grandchild, 7 years old, and another one due in December. 7. Do you work?.... I retired from teaching 2 years ago. If so what kind of work do you do? .... * I taught high school Business.* 8. Any pets?.... Because of my fostering cats for our shelter, I now have 6 cats. So I had to stop fostering, as it was too hard to give them back. I also have my parents' Shih Tzu, who is 12, because they can no longer care for him. Thanks so much, hope this helps.. LuAnne **~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~** We would like to say to Kiki for letting us step into her personal life for a bit. If there are any questions you would like to see asked in future interviews, please let us know. Laura laura lee
My name is Lisa AKA marlisam. I came up with my nickname because I wanted something that could be said so I combined my first name, with my middle initial m, and part of my maiden last name. I joined GT in June 2001. I was enjoying playing games on the Internet, but I wanted a place where I could connect with people and this site is it! Although I lose much more often than I win, I truly enjoy playing the games and chatting with the people... some of them I have conversed with for nearly ten years now and though I have not met them in person, I found many of them to be some of the most open, loyal, honest people I could ever find. They have gotten me through birthdays, a marriage, a divorce, mental health issues to just name a few things. Right now I am really enjoying all of the card games and American Rummikub so if you want to play just send an invite. This site is made for playing games, at which I am not too great, but more importantly to me, about incredible people for which I am truly grateful. Lisa marlisam In the summer of 2001, I learned about GoldToken from a boyfriend of mine. I lived in Hawaii at the time (as did he). His son, who had only recently graduated from college, lived in Seattle. His son had suggested they play chess on GT as a way of staying connected across the miles. By the autumn of 2001 I had moved from Hawaii to Connecticut. My boyfriend remained in Hawaii. It was when our long-distance relationship started that we began playing chess on GT. It was one of the ways we began to make connections while we were thousands of miles apart. The bad news in the short term was that he won a large majority of the chess matches we played. The good news in the long term is that the boyfriend and I are no longer together. The silver lining for me was learning about GoldToken. I introduced my Dad (who lives in Oklahoma) and my sister (who has lived in New York, Texas and Ohio in that time) to playing games on GoldToken. We have tried and enjoyed many of the games here and we play among ourselves daily. No matter where we are home, work, online cafe, airport, mobile phone or laptop (anywhere in the world!) we stay connected through chatting and playing games on GoldToken. We used to play a whole bunch of Reversi and Four In A Row. Backgammon is our favorite now; along with Grabble, Pente and Shake Rattle and Roll. We have recently been delighted by the addition of Cribbage, Rummikub and Senet. I don't generally play games with other players on the site. However, an exception to that rule years ago has led to a wonderful friendship for me with one of the best backgammon players on this site: illume. He has taught me a lot about the game and more than that, he is my friend. Thanks to GT for being a place safe from stress and always lots of fun (as long as I'm winning)! prettyparson
July's contest is the Best Blog submitted throughout the month. All entries will be posted in a poll and announced for voting in next month's newsletter. Winner will receive two extra months on their current membership, or, if Guest, a two month Silver membership. A blog (according to Wikipedia) is a page where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject such as food, politics, or local news; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. If you decide to enter the world of blogging, you should decide what kind of blog you want your blog to be. What do you want to write about? Are you going to write about many things or something specific? Decide how often you are going to add entries, every day, once a week, once a month. Once you have decided what you are going to write about, you need to think about how you are going to write it or enter it into your blog. Be it by text, by pictures, or even external links. A great blog will take advantage of all of the above things, your blog story or viewpoint can be enhanced and made much more enjoyable and interesting to read by the use of pictures and links. Write about what you are passionate about, write about what you know and make sure you know what you are writing about. For the more serious bloggers, you won't be taken very seriously if your blog is full of grammar and spelling mistakes. So make sure you spell-check. No matter your blog content, people will continue to come back to read it as long as you continue to make it interesting.

This month's club interview is with The Green Thumb Gardening Club 1. Please Tell us a little about your club.... *The Green Thumb Gardening Club* How long has this club been on GT?... started on May 2, 2005 About how many members do you have?.... 26 members 2. Are you the original owner?... I'm the original owner If so, what prompted you to start this club? I started the club because there wasn't any at the time that talked about the subject... A place for gardeners to talk about their gardens, successes, problems and swap 3. What kind of games does your club play? Or are you a "chat" only club? What kind of discussions does your club get into? Mostly it's a chat club, once in a while a few games ... I do have areas where you can post favorite garden websites to share, there is a swap, where you can post items from your yard you would like to share for example I have a lot of rose of sharon and a club member wanted some so I sent them to her and she now has them growing in her yard ... I also have where you can post pictures of your yard to show off all the hard work you've been doing ... If you have a problem you can post and there may be a member who has found an answer and we discuss how to help each other with gardening problems ... Also a spot to share recipes that you have, using things from your garden, like I posted the recipe I came up with for fresh salsa, using ingredients straight from my garden ... 4. Does your club do a lot of club vs. club ? We've never done a club vs club tournament 5. What do you think of the tourny ones. Or do you enjoy doing the wiki's? we've had the wikis style games and a couple tournament games 6. Do you have a lot of 'helpers' ? I have only one other officer and she's really a great help 7. What are your future plans for your club? There is a tournament right now with a prize and we've done games specific to our club, for example grabble and only use words with gardening terms ... Maybe we could start more games and the more gardeners the better 8. Do you have any other clubs? Would you like to tell us a little about them?. { Club }... Is all about being a soap opera fan ... They are loyal viewers and we have fun discussing the latest happenings of our shows ... At the time it as created, I couldn't start the club because I was a silver membership and so I became the vice president and another player started it for me ... when I got my gold they transferred it to me ... there are tournaments to join, a favorite is where we pit one soap against another or we've had villians vs heroes and one soap where you can assume a character ... there are ways to earn points for your soap to by winning games you advance your soap in the poll Any other clubs? The Pet Lovers Club.... I'm not the original owner it's had several ... I started a memorial wiki for pets we've loved and lost, a birthday wiki to post pets birthdays, also a wiki to post pictures of your pets ... It's a chat only club and everyone talks about anything to do with pets ... We also post any recalls or warnings as soon as we find them so others can be alerted, say a recall on pet food or when the heartworm vaccine was recalled ... It's open to any kind of pet ... and a great place for support too ... A lot of members have had pets pass, including myself and it's a great place to express feelings about your pet and gain support If you would like more info on these clubs, feel free to contact me asmdrm.... for letting me talk about the clubs asmdrm for letting us have a look at your club...... The club is open to everyone and all are welcome to take part. Just what kind of game this is going to be is yet unknown, but I am sure that it won't be long before players come up with the basics and start designing graphics. GoldToken will code whatever game the club comes up with. This is really a special opportunity for everyone to add their input into something really unique and wonderful. If successful, we will do another! So come and put your ideas in and see what develops. Some really good ideas are already hitting the boards, don't miss out on being part of this.
