GoldToken's Monthly News

Would you like to play in GoldToken's 2018 Summer Olympics Games?

If so, please go and join The GoldToken's Olympics Master Club! Click the link and look for the "invitations" box on the right-hand side of your screen, then click "yes" to join. That's all you need to do to declare your desire to play - no need to send a PM or post a message on the discussion board. The first batch of games will begin on Sunday, July 22, 2018.

Over the next couple of weeks, team assignments will be made and you'll be invited to join your specific team's club. At that time, you will be able to sign up for the games you wish to play. Players can sign up for as few or as many games as they care to.

The Paraprosdokian Sentences Discussion Board

MM David littlefair XI has taken over hosting duties, in tribute to smiler5 who previously hosted the board. A Paraprosdokian sentence is known as “a figure of speech where the last part of the sentence or phrase has a surprising or unexpected ending.” The last part of the sentence in this game should be as humorous or dramatic as possible. David would love it if you stopped by the board and took part in the latest challenge.

Discussion Board Usage

After many unruly debates and subsequent player complaints, we have decided it best to close down our Politics discussion board for the foreseeable future. Players should consider taking political debate to their own political clubs. If we continue to have this type of problem on the discussion board, we will close it too. Our discussion boards are for your pleasure, but when players abuse them we have to take action. We apologize for any upset this may have caused to those who tried to use the board for meaningful and respectful discussion.

Game Of The Month

July's game of the month is Quicksand Four in a Row! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The Game of the Month - July 2018 - Quicksand 4IAR Tournament!

In this variant of Four in a Row, the bottom row of the board is the "Quicksand" row. If the Quicksand row fills completely with pieces, and a four in a row is not formed by the last piece placed on that row, then the Quicksand row will sink off the game board, and all remaining pieces will shift downward by one row.

Best Recipe Contest

June's winner is: Tomato, Cucumber and Onion Salad

Ingredients
5 medium plum tomatoes
1 medium red onion
1 medium cucumber
1 tsp minced garlic
Olive Oil
Red Wine Vinegar
salt and black pepper

Directions
Cut tomatoes into quarters (or smaller if preferred).
Slice the Cucumber skin on in half lengthwise and then across into small slices.
Cut Onion in half lengthwise and then into thin slices.

Add everything into a large bowl, generously drizzle olive oil over top, red wine vinegar and salt, and pepper. Toss and let stand for about 20 minutes. Toss again and refrigerate. Serve with crusty bread to scoop up the juices.

What Is A Blog

A blog (according to Wikipedia) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject such as food, politics, or local news; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic.

If you decide to enter the world of blogging, you should decide what kind of blog you want your blog to be. What do you want to write about? Are you going to write about many things or something specific? Decide how often you are going to add entries - every day, once a week, once a month, etc.
Once you have decided what you are going to write about, you need to think about how you are going to write it or enter it into your blog, be it by text, by pictures or even external links. A great blog will take advantage of all of the above things. Your blog story or viewpoint can be enhanced and made much more enjoyable and interesting to read by the use of pictures and links.

Write about what you are passionate about, write about what you know and make sure you know what you are writing about. For the more serious bloggers, be aware that you won't be taken very seriously if your blog is full of grammar and spelling mistakes. So make sure you spellcheck.

No matter your blog content, people will continue to come back to read it as long as you continue to make it interesting.

Caught

The screen door is open and I walk in. Jeremy likes it open so I don't nag anymore. I smell spaghetti. He cooked? I hear his voice and call out to him. He walks out of the den as if he has not heard me, his hand resting at the small of the back of a blonde who looks familiar. Is she Jack's teacher? I duck around the corner. I want to catch him in the act. I am furious when I see my favourite red pumps dangling from her fingers, as they walk through the kitchen and out the door. He closes and locks it and I run out the side way to watch from around the garage. They take off in -presumably-<em> her</em> burgundy BMW and I grab my bike and hop on, hurrying to keep abreast of where they are headed. They don't go far, turning off the side entrance of the old arboretum where we used to walk. I am crushed. Why would Jeremy cheat on me?

I have to hustle to catch up, way down the dirt road from them, but I see where they parked ahead. If I yelled to him now, he wouldn't hear it. Jeremy and Kristy-it was always us. Everyone we knew said so. My heart is in my throat as I huff and pant and finally come close enough to see them and hear their voices. I watch Jer take my shoes from the woman and lay them neatly by flowers and a weathered cross.

“It's because of you,” he says, “that I can move on with my life after five years. Thank you for understanding.” They embrace as I reach them, seeing my name on the cross and the small stones and shells beneath.

“You're a good man, keeping her memory alive. But it's time,” she says gently and leans against him, looking down at the crude shrine in a bed of violets and forget-me-nots. I look down at my feet, remembering a tango in those shoes. I watch my body turn transparent and start to melt away, feeling myself gently tugged far until I cannot see them, or that world, anymore.
