Suggested Opponents Have you ever wondered how we come up with those suggestions? And yes, we've all found ourselves to be the best match at times! Here's a little insight: One of the frustrating things about playing board games is finding an opponent who is just right for you. As Goldilocks discovered when she visited the home of the three bears, you don't want an opponent who is much more skilled at the game than you are, nor do you want one who offers little challenge. One of the great features of this site is our suggested opponents. Here is how it works: We use a rating system - This site uses a rating system to estimate your skill in every game you play. The more games you complete, the more accurate this rating system becomes. You can read the info page entitled Ratings for more details. We make suggestions - Based on your performance in the games you have completed, we will suggest opponents that we feel will offer a good competition to you. We do this by comparing your rating to the ratings of other players at this site, and then recommending the players who most closely match your skill level. The suggestions change according to your skill - If you are just getting started, we make suggestions based on our average player. If you end up winning the game, we suggest a more skilled opponent for the next game. If you end up losing, our next suggestion will be against another player who is also still getting the hang of the game. As your skills in the game improve, so will the skill set of your suggested opponents. We'll find the right opponent for you!

November's game of the month is Rock Paper Scissors! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The Nov 2012 Game of the Month Rock Paper Scissors Tournament! More RPS Strategies Enviro gave a good starting point with his article on patterns: http://www.goldtoken.com/games/nuggets?id=4 It's always important to avoid patterns in your own play and to catch those of your opponents. In addition, there are a few things to consider: 1) Beat your previous throw. If you happen to win a hand, many opponents feel a sense of frustration and have a tendency to throw the move you just played back at you. I don't know the specific psychology here, but if you are player against a new or relatively inexperienced player, it is often a safe bet to throw the move that would beat your previous throw. 2) Inexperienced players tend to start with Rock. If you suspect you are playing a newcomer, throw paper first. Experienced players tend to KNOW that inexperienced players start with rock and they tend to start with paper. Against an experienced player, a better bet is to start with scissors. 3) If you have an opponent that NEVER plays the same move twice in a row, you can always beat or tie them. If they throw Rock on one turn, you know they will follow with Paper OR Scissors the next, so you throw Scissors and you will tie or beat them. If Paper, then next expect Rock or Scissors and throw Rock. If Scissors, expect Rock or Paper, and throw Paper. 4) Opponents that DO throw doubles generally have a higher chance of throwing something other than their doubled move on the third throw (Unless they have a tendency to pattern with 3-in-a-row throws, of course), and you can use the advice in point 3 to meet or beat them on the following turn. These tips are geared towards 2 player games, but an applied gamer could use them to predict a field of moves in multiplayer games, too. There are a few more tips out there as well, but we can't give away every trick in one post! We hope you enjoy it! Special to *jonfunk* for writing this month's Game of the Month Nugget. You too, can write a knock-out Nugget and reap the rewards! If your Nugget is chosen as the winner for GoldToken's Game of the Month in GoldToken's Monthly Newsletter, you will win:

**~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~** We would like to say to Honeybear for letting us step into their personal life for a bit. 1. What brought you to GoldToken? A lady I played with on another site told me about GT and I fell in love with it. Have been here since October 12,2001. I will soon have 11 years! (As of publication, she does! ) How'd you choose your name for GT? I live on Honey Hill and we have bears here so Honeybear. 2. What interests you most on GT? The games and the people. I have made several lifelong friends. 3. Do you belong to any of the clubs? How about the chat only clubs (birds, kitties, garden)? I belong to several clubs. I also have been running { Club } along with Nancy since August 28,2002. I belong to The Green Thumb Gardening Club because my husband and I love gardening. 4. What State or Country do you reside in? I live in North Carolina Do you live in the City or Country? The area that we live in is rural. Even the towns around us you will see farm tractors parked along the 2 city blocks while the farmer runs in to get a hot dog or hamburger. Out here a traffic jam is when the farmers are moving their farm equipment from one field to another. My house has fields on 3 sides. This year on the left & behind the house was corn fields. On the right side is peanuts. Across the road is also a corn field. Can't see the neighbors houses until they cut the corn. What in your State or Country do you think tourists should definitely see? We are 40 miles from the beaches and 200 miles to the mountains. All the little towns around here have festivals. We have the Pecan/Harvest festival and the next little town over is having the Yam Festival. In other towns there is also the Strawberry, Fire Ant & Watermelon Festival. So there is always something going on. 5. What hobbies to you have? I do crafts. Crocheting, sewing, plastic canvas and fabric painting What other interests do you have? I love working in my yard. I have lots of flowers. 6. Children? We have 4 kids: 2 daughters and 2 sons Grandchildren? 4 grandsons ;; & 4 granddaughters & 2 great granddaughters Do any of them play on GT? No but most of them are on Facebook 7. Do you work? I haven't worked in years If so, what kind of work do you do? The last job I had was a quality control inspector at a seafood processing plant. Do you enjoy your job? I enjoyed my job but I really enjoy being able to stay at home with my husband. 8. Any pets? LOL Cats lots of them. Living in the country they seem to show up. At last count there was 12! I also have a boxer. She is 12 yrs old and is slowing down but still our baby. She loves this time of the year. She gets candy corn & mary janes. 9. Are you under 30?___ 30 to 50? ___ or over 50? I am 52 and proud of it. After last year spending 52 days in the hospital and not sure if I was going to see another day.. I'll celebrate every year to come. 10. What's the farthest you've been from home? I've lived in a bunch of states growing up. But I've always called North Carolina home. Back in 1990 we moved to Washington State and in 1998 when my husband wanted to move back home it didn't take us long to sell and pack. We drove across the country and were never so happy to see the Welcome to North Carolina sign. Was it a vacation or for business? We do go to Georgia every summer to pick up one of our granddaughters. 11. If you could be anywhere right now, where would that be? Right where I am now. Snuggled up in my chair with the tv on, playing on my laptop, my husband on his computer, and my baby laying on the couch watching the candy jar! lol If there are any questions you would like to see asked in future interviews, please let us know. Gold Token and what it means to me. I Joined GT in 2004, many years i played as a guest. About 4/5 years ago the site gave me a 6 month free silver membership which allowed me to play a lot more games. I appreciated the site's good will. Whilst enjoying the new amount of games i was allowed to join more tournaments, i also found out about clubs and joined a club. So when the 6 months were nearly up i purchased a gold membership and found it also allowed me to play more games. I joined the Sallyp and Friends club and learned how to play wiki tournaments. At first i had no idea what a wiki or even a wiki tournament was but soon picked it up. The Sallyp and Friends club was having a minor crisis when I joined as it had very few officers. The club owner was after new officers but also wanted someone who had ideas for tournies. I put my name forward and was accepted and became a vice president in the club. I used to run lots of chess tournies in my home city for both a club and the Local Chess association. I thought I could adapt some of these types of tournies to my club. I managed to put my ideas to the owner and we started doing lots of wiki tournaments. I started to learn how to do wiki work for myself and was soon doing the tournies for the Sallyp and Friends club and I became a full president of the club. Other clubs must have heard about some of the types of tournies I arranged and asked if I would do some for their clubs. I started doing a few for various clubs but told all these new clubs I would not be doing massive amounts of tournies as I spend a lot of time in my first club the Sallyp and Friends club. The amount of time I spend on GoldToken is a lot nowadays as I am retired but enjoy this site a great deal. I do have time for other game sites that I do play on but GT is my favourite site. I have played in 3 olympics and will be playing in this year's event as well I do not play so many of GT main tournaments nowadays as I get plenty in my various clubs. GoldToken is a game site worth paying for and the amount of active things to do is great. by johnnyyboy
