Introduction

Welcome to GoldToken's October 2006 Newsletter! While many of you will be celebrating Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Labor or Unity Day, Halloween and many other special days this month, GoldToken Support would like to give their best wishes to everyone for a safe and happy time during all upcoming occasions!

Site News

GoldToken programmers have a lot going on this month. Chad is graciously giving us his full attention to programming during the first full week of October and will be attempting to complete the new tournament code. Our newest programmer, Mecir, is now converting our Salvo games over from CGI to Perl, just like he has already done with our Reversi games. Mark007 is in the final testing stage of the checkers conversion, so we will no longer have any CGI script to slow down our servers. Great job gentlemen, thank you!

Chad has also been working hard on getting our newest payment addition of Google up and running! For those of you that would like more payment options available to you, we think you will find this a welcome addition to the site. We are happy to be able to offer our players a different variety of payment options that are easy and comfortable for anyone wishing to use them! A big thank you to Chad for making this work for us!

Monthly Message from Badger

Ever want to share something special with someone but know you are sworn to secrecy? Soooo exciting, and I do want to tell all...several huge suprizes coming to GoldToken, but am unable to let the cat out of the bag just yet. Arg!! they are fun, challenging, look pretty classy and sound great though!

Ray of Light and firefly have made headlines again this month with more than a few new additons to our Goldie family! My favorite is Just cracks me up everytime I see it! What else do they have up their sleeves I wonder

The Autumn equinox arrived last week for all our friends in the Northern Hemisphere! Games Corner by: Knight Rider

This month's feature: Salvo

Hi everyone!

First off when I joined this site and started playing Salvo @ http://www.GoldToken.com, I was losing games when I first started playing here. I studied how most players put their boats on the first 3 outer squares of the game boards for Salvo, Decoy Salvo, Stealth Salvo & Devious Salvo included. So I started playing the outer edges. I used to shoot at J7 first and was finding lots of the smallest boat there or at J3. Also, if you look at the Salvo board there are 100 squares that you can shoot at, 50 squares is what you should shoot at. If you find the little boat early on in your game, then you have an advantage of winning the game 75%-25%. Once you have found the little boat you should shoot at every three squares starting in a corner that has nothing near it. Lets say there has been no shooting at bottom left corner of your game board to start, I would start there. I also look at opposing players finished games. I know that some players do the same thing when I play them. LOL

Some players that I play always place their boats in a 'known pattern'. I do this a lot. When players start finding out where I am placing boats I change my pattern quickly or I will change a pattern so boats are in different places but in same areas of a given pattern. Hopes this help you become a better player.

"Oh", by the way, if you want to raise your rating to a better one, then quit playing 3,4, 5 & 6 players games, as you have a lower chance of winning those games. I do play a few multi player games every month.

SPECIAL Edition - Story Of The Month

A 50th Wedding Anniversary surprise to be shared!

Our children planned and gave hubby and I a surprise 50th anniversary brunch August 12, 2006 at the Holiday Inn, Runnimede, New Jersey for 40 relatives. This was the only time our family could all be together before school started... Our family has branched to Pensacola, Florida, Smyrna, Delaware, Grapevine, Texas and the rest all around me in Deptford, New Jersey. Our actual date is October 20th, so you can imagine our surprise. After the brunch, hubby and I went to visit his 96 year old mom and when we returned home, there was a pool and karaoke party going on for us.. 75 of our friends and relatives were there and a great time was had by all. What fun karaoke is... They even got me up singing, "You Light Up My Life", with one of our god daughters....lol.. We have 5 children, 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandson... Our best man, Pete, and one of our bridesmaids were there and Pete gave us another great toast. I appreciate the kindness of our children to plan such a nice celebration..... What a wonderful family we have been blessed with!

Testimonials Of The Month

I've been a member here at GoldToken for quite a long time now.. and I have to tell you when yayamom introduced me to the site, I couldn't get a grasp on how to play the games, my boards were all set backwards.. So I would tell her, "ugh I'm not gonna stay", and then told her why. She told me I had to set the boards the way I like to play and once I did that what a difference it made. Ha ha..

GoldToken has always been a friendly site with the nicest people. I have met quite of few in person and became very good friends with them outside of here. This site has a lot to offer people who enjoy the unwinding of the day with a little chat and game moves.. The main feature which I find to be the best is that it's a turnbased site to which you play when you can and the games will be here when you get back online. You're not pressured to finish a game. The discussion boards are quite fun when you get involved in a conversation that is going on and the game boards are good. The locker-rocker room gave you trivia and joggle jungle gave you a moment of quick thinking on just how many words you could find. I have enjoyed all the new games that have been introduced throughout the years, (games of the past ), where you would play them on a board at a table and here they are now online. This is a wonderful site and IF you have children you don't have to worry about them playing online. IT'S a really a down to earth family site. Thank you GoldToken for all you have offered to us and I'm sure there will be new games to come!
