March 2015
I'm sure you all have noticed some changes around GoldToken. Mecir and his team have been busy fixing bugs and other things around the site to make it more enjoyable for everyone.
You asked and we heard you. It was brought to management attention that when you went to the list of discussion boards it was a mess and very confusing. Well in an attempt to make it more user friendly we went through and renamed several of the boards and grouped all the boards that have to do with a certain subject together. For example now all of the boards that pertain to games played are now listed as game + the game it covers - Backgammon
Do you like Top Ten Lists? If you do head over to the and start posting you favorite ones. Be sure to keep them family friendly.

Rules for Tournaments & Ladders GoldToken's site run tournaments are a fun way for all to show some of their competitive nature and demonstrate their ability in their favorite games. However, there are a few guidelines and rules that must be followed to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and tournament ratings are displayed as accurately as possible.
Basic Rules Tournament play is a more 'professional' way of playing games. This being the case, players who deliberately delay tournament games will be penalized. Things that will be classified as 'delaying' tournaments include:
Note: The only time GoldToken would become involved is if the player was deliberately delaying a game to stall the outcome or pressure his opponent into resigning or accepting a resignation in an effort to cheat. Lets remember the whole purpose of turn based game playing...it allows you to play a game at your convenience because you do not have time to play head to head games. If you have a slow opponent, take it up with them individually, asking them to please speed up their game play...but be kind about it. And above all, do not be complaining to others here about it.Draws Offering and/or Agreeing to a draw too early in a game for the benefit of one or both players will be considered cheating and will result in disqualification of both players involved.
Throwing Games "Throwing" tournament games to benefit another member will not be allowed in any case, by any membership level player.
Penalties Penalties for any of these offenses may include, but will not be limited to:
Further information on these policies can be found at GoldToken's Acceptable Use Policy and Cheating pages.
Simply put: Rating-restricted tournaments are not open to players who do not have a rating in an attempt to ensure that the participants are more evenly matched - if you haven't been assigned any rating yet, we do not yet know your skill in the game.

Unfortunately, our shipping costs have risen substantially with the latest postage increase. And everything now has to go first class overseas. This has led us to have to require players pay the shipping costs for all prizes. What does this mean for you? This will mean all players have to pay the cost of shipping to receive their prizes. For shipping rates, please see the information posted in GoldToken Store. Is there any way I can prevent this? While there is no way we can prevent the cost you must pay for each package, what we can do is allow you to 'save' your prizes. GoldToken Management will keep track of your prizes in a wiki, after you notify us of what was won. You can then choose to 'store' these up until such a time that you feel the postage reimbursement would be worth it. Be advised, if your 'stored' prizes do become larger than the size that will fit in one manila envelope we will have to mail these out to you with the required postage reimbursement. How big is a two ounce package? You can figure on about 5 heavy or 10 light pens, or 1 carabiner for each two ounces. What if I do not want to pay the shipping costs? You can also, at any time choose not to receive a specific prize. We will not force you to pay the postal fees, but if you choose not to, we will not be able to send the prize or give it to another player unless they pay for the shipping. * If you have a question about a site tip or helpful tool you would like answered next month, please send GoldToken's Newshound a message before the 25th of this month.

{ Image: i994.photobucket.com/albums/af66/llwgirl/StPattys/bb10ln6_zpsc2718ebd.gif } **~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~** We would like to say to Pooka for letting us step into their personal life for a bit. 1. What brought you to Goldtoken? How'd you choose your name for GT? Was playing someone over on It’s Your Turn (IYT) and they invited me to come over to ;;GT;; to try it out. Primarily played chess at first but expanded to Outbreak and then others. At first I tried to use my IYT name, which referred to my old ship,;;boat;; USS Fort Fisher, Landing Ship Dock 40 but the acronym was not allowed by admin. After multiple other attempts I finally remembered main character of the movie “Harvey” whom was a Pooka. It was available so … 2. What interest you most on GT? Favorite game here? Playing games of course. Not much of a “talker” but will engage in discussions at times but do enjoy being a member of the few clubs I am signed up with. My favorite game currently is the Xiphias variants. I also play Outbreak a lot and am becoming fond of Barricade. I play on a few other ladders just to keep in practice with those games. 3. What State or Country do you reside in? What in your State or Country do you think tourist should definitely see? I live in Washington State in the city of Renton, which is just South of Seattle at the bottom of Lake Washington. Renton is the home of the Boeing 737 assembly line and, more importantly, the training camp for the Seattle Seahawks NFL team.;;football;; While this year’s Super Bowl was a disappointment, the defensive was pretty beat up going into the game and took more hits during the game. Really looking forward to next year and hoping for “Beast Mode” to return. Go Seahawks! 4. What hobbies do you have? Just playing games and reading for the most part. Only play at “GT” and “youplay.it” now and the offerings are very different between the two sites. I primarily play “Blue Max” and “Wooden Ships and Iron Men” at youplay.it. Also building a few retaining ;;gbrick;; walls on the back slope to make it more usable. Having just retired, planning to become a local tourist and see all those sights that most locals never get around to. 5. Children? Grandchildren? We have a couple of grandkids ;;pinks;;;;blues;; but they live out in Minnesota. My wife had two boys that lived with their dad but visited on a regular basis. The other boy lives over on the Olympic Peninsula near Port Angeles here in Washington. His contributions are limited to the four-leg type.;;catg;;;;dogb;;;;mousey;; 6. Do you work? What kind of work do/did you do? As mentioned above, I just retired after 36 years at the Boeing Company. Started in the Receiving Inspection, just inside from the loading docks and finished as a Quality Assurance manager. I told my wife that I was a “professional meeting attender”, which is probably more true than I really want to admit. 7. Any pets? I have had many pets over the years but currently, Ginger has been blessing us with her presence. She gives new meaning to a picky kitty.;;caty;; Glad my wife deals with most of that. Ginger only demands petting and cuddling from me (Purrrr). 8. Are you under 30?___ 30 to 50? ___ or over 50? Male or Female? Male, over 50. ;;blue;;9. What's the farthest you been from home? Vacation or for business? As mentioned above, I was in the US Navy ;;salute;; and participated in a few WestPacs, Western Pacific Cruise,;;sea;;;;sea;; so I would have to say that Singapore was the farthest West I have been and we did on cruise down to Mazatlan for the Southern extreme. While working for Boeing I had to travel to Paris on business so that covers East. Have not ventured much to the North, just visited Vancouver Canada a couple of times. My ship visited Victoria once as well, a few of us even managed to take some leave and travelled down to visit my family in Seattle. 10. If you could be anywhere right now where would that be? I am good right where I am. This area offers just about everything most of the time. This is the first time there has not been much of a ;;skil;; season but normally from the slopes to the water it is available in Washington. Ok, some folks might have a little issue with the weather but on the other hand, we do not have any of the extremes other places have. No triple digit heat and no single digit freeze-a-thons. There is just enough temperature change to experience the four seasons. So it is a little cloudy and moist at times, that helps keep the area green! ;;grass;;;;grass;; 11. Favorite season? I guess that would have to be fall.;;treea;; The autumn leaves and the crispness of the morning air. Fall begins with the last vestiges of a summer cooling to begin the harvest and the celebration of our labors. The NFL kicks off the regular season and Seahawk football returns! Our annual celebration of “yes, I do” is followed by Halloween,;;boo;; which has so many different perspectives than what we grew up with. A family feast;;burger;; at my house ;;house1;; for my whole family plus friends ;;group;; as the harvest closes with winter and the glittering ;;snow;;;;snow;; of Christmas ;;treex;; rising on the horizon as nature turns to hibernation for renewal of its spirit. And, did I mention, Seahawks football! ;;football;; 12, Favorite movie? Actor? Actress? Song? Favorite movie is a bit tricky. There are a lot of “;;wow;;” movies out there where the technology grabs you and takes you for a ride.;;moose1;; Problem with those is that newer tech takes too much away from some of the older movies. So based on the story, and that I am a “happy ending” kind of guy, I will have to go with “Harvey” with Jimmy Stewart. It is a fun, nonsensical movie about a fellow that just wants to be cordial, which drives the family nuts! I think I will stay with Jimmy Stewart as my favorite actor too. His movies span comedy and drama, from westerns to living in the cities. It is real difficult to really say any one is my favorite however. Actresses is another difficult one as I am a sucker for those “chick flicks” (refer to “happy endings” above). I guess I would go with Sandra Bullock as she has done quite a range of movie themes but really cannot say there is a clear “favorite”. I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s to the top 40 and a healthy serving of R&B. Then I joined the Navy ;;pirate;; and spread my wings outside of my “hood”. That being said, my favorite song would have to be “Home” by Blake Shelton. That song brings me back to those long voyages at sea or some of those more extensive business trips that took me from where I wanted to be. That gives me so much appreciation for what I have now and where I am now. If there are any questions you would like to see asked in future interviews, please let us know. Laura laura lee
I joined Goldtoken in 2006, some nine years ago. I used to play on IYT and someone recommended this site. I have never looked back. I truly think it is an amazing site, I love the grabble type games and do play whist occasionally but I am hopeless at that, lol. I find the people to be really lovely and have met some very nice people who I would love to meet in real life, but don't suppose I will. I have found people to be very caring and full of fun, just what I love. I think anyone would need to go a long way before they found a site as good as this. From CarolP- a very happy grabble player.

They had shared everything. They had talked about everything. They had kept no secrets from each other except that the little old woman had a shoe box in the top of her closet that she had cautioned her husband never to open or ask her about. For all of these years, he had never thought about the box, but one day the little old woman got very sick and the doctor said she would not recover. In trying to sort out their affairs, the little old man took down the shoe box and took it to his wife's bedside. She agreed that it was time that he should know what was in the box. When he opened it, he found two crocheted dolls and a stack of money totalling $95,000. He asked her about the contents. 'When we were to be married,' she said, ' my grandmother told me the secret of a happy marriage was to never argue. She told me that if I ever got angry with you, I should just keep quiet and crochet a doll.' The little old man was so moved; he had to fight back tears. Only two Precious dolls were in the box. She had only been angry with him two Times in all those years of living and loving. He almost burst with Happiness. 'Honey,' he said, 'that explains the doll, but what about all of this money? Where did it come from?' 'Oh,' she said, 'that's the money I made from selling the dolls.'
